Paris 2024

On Saturday, 10 August 2024, 2pm Singapore Time, one of the greatest long-distance runners of all time, Kenenisa Bekele will toe the line in the men's marathon, representing Ethiopia. Bekele's illustrious career has captivated fans and inspired athletes around the globe because of the depth of his running ability and longevity in an unforgiving sport that rewards few—even the victors.

Kenenisa Bekele's storied athletics career

Born and raised in Bekoji, Ethiopia, Bekele's journey to this Saturday's start line is nothing short of extraordinary. He first began his athletics career in 2001 and raced, won and held records in everything from 3–10k events across cross-country, indoor and outdoor track meets.

With an impressive collection of Olympic and World Championship titles, Bekele is nothing short of a legend in the world of distance running.

Best known in the world of athletics for his prowess in the 5,000 and 10,000m. His transition to the marathon, undoubtedly, piqued the interest of fans and experts alike.

Following in the footsteps of fellow Ethiopian distance-running icon Haile Gebrselassie, Bekele has seamlessly transitioned to the gruelling 42.195km, showcasing his unwavering determination and relentless pursuit of excellence. With a personal best of 2:01:41 and the Masters' World Record [set by athletes over the age of 35] of 2:04:15, Bekele is a force to be reckoned with—even at 42 years of age

With the stage set for a momentous and historic event at Paris 2024, Bekele's presence is sure to elevate the marathon to new heights—just as he has with his input when designing our C202 marathon race shoe family. His participation is a testament to the global appeal of the sport, and it's certain to inspire runners of all ages, motivations, and backgrounds, regardless of the outcome.

As he embarks on this monumental quest against the world's greatest, one thing is sure—the world will bear witness to the indomitable spirit and extraordinary talent of a true legend. And we welcome you to cheer him on as he challenges all limits.
